What's all this about then?

As the name suggests "Shoot a Miner" is the Melbourne Silver Mine's portraiture event.

It asks our members to get together and shoot one another.

This can be via a traditional portrait sitting, a collaborative effort between photographer and subject or a even candid capture.

We aren't trying to dictate what a "portrait" is. We are expecting you to be comfortable with pushing that particular envelope.

Use this as an opportunity to be inventive, step out of your usual photo style, use a different technique and above all take this opportunity to get to know your fellow MSM members.

Here comes the detail

Shoot a Miner is a project for Melbourne Silver Mine members. There is no fee to participate, and you are very welcome to become a member today and take part.

Copyright of the images submitted remains yours at all times, your participation simply gives the MSM Inc the right to use your images to create the material used to present the work. We may want to use the image to promote the event in the future, but we will ask permission for that anyway.

There are no restrictions on the number of members you can shoot (we have 70 today, so go nuts). But we ask that you submit no more than 3 shots of each member you shoot.

Shoot a Miner (or SAM as we've come to know him) is a community building exercise. Getting together, meeting members you haven't had the chance to and shooting, these are SAM's main goals.

But surely there are prizes?!

Apart from the pleasure of being part of something? Well, yes actually, there are.

Various prizes will be awarded on the night and for all participants, however we are pleased to be able to announce that the good folk at Light Leaks Magazine are sponsoring a prize category. Light Leaks Mags and vouchers to their online store are up for grabs for people shooting Low-Fi portraitre (more details in the SAM Flickr group)
