please introduce yourself. what is “your style” of photography? I’m obsessed with Polaroid photography, typography and 80′s music. I like capturing the detail and texture that we often miss. I guess I try and create a little atmosphere and feeling in my photos… whether it be street shoots or abstract angles. I like the idea of keeping the viewer intrigued, drawing them in with detail and depth.

how long have you been shooting film? I did a little black and white photography back in uni, but only just rediscovered film about three years ago. My parents bought me a Polaroid camera for Christmas, and by the next year I had 12 cameras.

do you prefer colour or black & white? do you have a favourite film or camera? I shoot in colour, but occasionally shoot black and white. I have two favourite Polaroid films, 669 and ArtisticTZ. The 669 film has intense blue shifts, and the ArtisticTZ film has some amazing burnt colours and textures. I love the unpredictability of Polaroid film.

show us one of your favourite shots and tell us a bit about it, how did you take it and is there a story behind it?

I love the texture, colour and detail of this shot (hong kong). I took this Polaroid during one of my visits to Melbourne last year. I had some time on my own, so I decided to wander through Melbourne’s CBD. Multiple exposures are always so hit and miss, so you can imagine my surprise when I peeled back this baby!

show us a favourite shot from the MSM pool. What do you enjoy in other peoples’ photos?

I admire photographers who have mastered black and white photography. Although I love colour photography, I think there’s a real art to capturing the emotion and atmosphere with no reliance on colours. Black and white film photography is definitely something I want to master. It’s an inspiration seeing the unique style and talent that some photographers have.

how much money have you spent on film so far this year? I did a massive film hoard about a year ago when Polaroid announced that it was discontinuing all film; which was about a $1000. I still have about half that film. I’ve also spent about another $600 on newer film varieties in the last 6 months. The Impossible Project (http://www.the-impossible-project.com/) has since been created by a group of dedicated Polaroid photographers fighting to keep the film alive, developing new techniques in producing the film.
